Gold and Silver: Students of HSE Faculty of Computer Science Win Codemasters Code Cup
Students of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science Fedor Romanov and Bogdan Yandulov took first and second places in the finals of the all-Russian programming tournament for students ‘Codemasters Code Cup 2023’. The two were named the best among the 16 finalists who made it through the tournament’s online round.
Codemasters Code Cup is a student programming tournament held by Codemasters International for the fourth year in a row. This year’s competition was organised jointly with Tula State University and the Centre for Olympiad Training in Programming at Mordovia State University in Tula.
A total of 370 students from 63 Russian cities took part in the qualifying round of the championship. The finalists competed in two tracks: sports programming and business application development.
Two students of the Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics and Information Science of the HSE University Faculty of Computer Science made it to the finals of the competition. Fedor Romashov, 2nd-year student, took first place in the Sports Programming track, while Bogdan Yandulov, 3rd-year student, took second place.

The qualifying round turned out to be quite interesting; the tasks were for both beginners and more advanced participants. It turned out to be quite easy to get to the finals.
The organisers asked us about the necessary software in advance, everything was installed, and we were provided comfortable workplaces and some of the best computers that I have seen at olympiads and tournaments. The final round was organised without technical problems. I also liked the quality of the tasks. As I found out later, there were some really good problem setters on the jury, for example Alexey Shmelev.
The tasks in the final round were difficult—I had to try my hardest. I'm still no closer to solving two out of the ten problems. It's cool that there were several strong competitors from MIPT, HSE University in Moscow, and HSE University in St Petersburg, although I hope that next year there will be even more strong participants. I liked the tournament and I will be glad to participate next year!

First there was a qualifying round. We managed to pass it without any difficulties and got to the final. I would like to note that the event was organised very well; everything was first class. Initially, I had no expectations of the final round in terms of results, so I'm glad I took second place—I didn't expect it at all! Next year I will definitely participate again.
