HSE Ranks Among Top 3 Universities in Expert Analysis Centre Ranking of Universities of the New Economy
HSE University ranks among the top three universities of the Expert Analysis Centre’s Ranking of Universities of the New Economy, which assesses companies’ satisfaction with the training and education of specialists in high-tech fields. HSE shares 1st-3rd place with Lomonosov Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University.
The ranking was compiled based on research conducted by the Expert Analysis Centre with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science, the presidential Russia is a Land of Opportunity platform, the Presidential Grants Fund, as well as Ural Federal University and HSE University – St. Petersburg, as part of the Time for a Career programme. The survey was conducted in the fall of 2020 among 500 companies in 74 regions of Russia. More than 90% of the surveyed companies represent medium and large businesses. The assessment was carried out in four professional areas: IT, life sciences and technology, energy, and mechanical engineering/industry. The general ranking is the most recent to combine the answers of respondents in the four named areas, and also consider employers’ experiences with recruiting other specialists who were not included in these areas.
HSE achieved the leading positions in the overall ranking to the University’s top-ranking performance in the indicators of reputation, students’ average USE (Unified State Exam) scores, and the availability of partnership programmes with companies. In addition, in the ranking in the field of information technology, HSE University took 7th-8th place.
The methodology of the ranking includes three indicator categories. The most important is the ‘Company Satisfaction’ category, which accounts for half of the overall result. It includes indicators such as reputation (15%), professional skills of graduates (15%), universal competencies of graduates (10%), and digital competencies of graduates (10%). The second most important category is ‘Scale of Activity’, which demonstrates the prevalence of graduates in the studied professional fields. It includes indicators, such as the number of companies hiring university graduates (15%) and the number of graduates hired by the surveyed companies (15%). The last category of ‘Supporting Indicators’ includes additional indicators, such as the presence of partner programmes with companies (10%) and average USE score (10%).

HSE University Leads the AI Alliance Ranking
The AI Alliance Russia has released a new ranking of Russian universities based on the quality of education in the field of AI. Similar to last year, HSE University has joined the leaders in A+ group alongside MIPT and ITMO. A total of 207 universities from 69 Russian regions participated in the ranking. In 2024, over 35,000 students were enrolled in AI-related programmes at these universities.

Shanghai Ranking Names HSE Top Russian University in 11 Subjects
HSE University is this year’s leading Russian university in 11 subjects in the Shanghai Ranking. In seven of these, the university is the only Russian higher education institution to appear. This year, the university was ranked among the top universities for Communications for the first time and returned to the ranking for Sociology.
