MIEM Seniors Present Their Projects at January Poster Session
In 2018, MIEM became HSE University’s first department to officially introduce project work to its curriculum. Students choose their projects in September and present them in poster form in January. The January poster session serves as an interim evaluation mechanism before student present their final versions of their projects before an expert jury in May and June.

participants from 83 countries have registered for the International Data Analysis Olympiad (IDAO). Most registrations came from Russia and India. The top ten most-represented countries among participants also include the United States, Iran, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Pakistan.
New HSE Master’s Programme Focuses on German-Speaking Countries
The Faculty of Humanities is now accepting applications to its new Master’s programme, ‘Germanica: History and Modernity’ for the fall of 2020. The programme gives students a wide-ranging knowledge of the German-speaking regions of the world—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The programme is taught in Russian and German. Applicants’ proficiency of German will be verified upon admission. Professor Petr Rezvykh, the programme’s Academic Supervisor, discusses the features of the programme.
HSE University Enters Top-5 of Best Russian Universities in National Survey
According to a national survey conducted by VCIOM, HSE University ranks fifth in the ‘People’s Ranking of Russian Universities’. A total of 1,600 Russians aged over 18 participated in the survey, which was carried out through phone interviews, relying on a random sample of landline and mobile numbers.

Friederike Augustin is a second year Master’s student in Comparative Social Research double degree programme with Free University of Berlin. After reading European Studies for her Bachelor’s she enrolled in an Eastern European Studies programme to have the opportunity to spend some time in Russia.
HSE Student Wins Bronze at International Design Competition
In December 2019, the awards ceremony for the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, one of the world’s biggest student design contests, took place in Taiwan. Anna Degoeva, fourth-year student of Communication Design at HSE University who participated in the competition, took third place.
HSE Lyceum Student Wins Bronze at International Competition in Kazakhstan
On January 8-14, the city of Almaty hosted the International Zhautykovsky Olympiad (IZO) in mathematics, physics, and computer science. In the computer science competition, HSE Lyceum 11th grader Alexander Potapov won a bronze medal. 84 teams from 21 countries including Norway, Romania, the UAE, and Nepal participated in the Olympiad.
