In early November 2023, a delegation from HSE University visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen. HSE University representatives took part in CUHK-Shenzhen 2023 International Partner Day and discussed the existing student exchange agreement with colleagues from China.

Even now, during the pandemic, many of them did not come back to Russia, opting instead to continue their studies abroad. Progressive Movement: Researchers Study Factors Behind Interregional Student Mobility
Benchmark data and the standard of living in the regions of Russia affect student mobility, according to a study by HSE Centre for Institutional Studies researchers Ilya Prakhov and Maria Bocharova. Strong graduates from more educated and wealthy families are more likely to enrol in a university far from home, but the economy usually affects such a decision. High wages draw students towards the regions, while a high cost of living pushes them away.

Last year the HSE Nizhny Novgorod signed a cooperation agreement with the Chinese university, agreeing to develop a partnership in science, joint research projects, and student mobility.
