Arnab Roy Chowdhury, Assistant Professor at the HSE School of Sociology, Moscow, has worked at HSE since 2017. In 2022, he was named one of the university’s best teachers by student vote. He has published several papers in internationally recognised journals and supervised a number of doctoral students. Below, Dr Chowdhury talks about his research career, the changes in the global academic environment, and the larger role of international scholarly cooperation.

The summer break is an opportunity for hard-working HSE University students to relax, recuperate, explore the city and travel. Two such students, Daniel Suarez from Colombia and Oluwafunto Abimbola from Nigeria, share their experiences of the positives (and pitfalls) of summer in the city and life at HSE dormitories.

Ayomide Adedini, from Nigeria, is a second-year student of the Master's in Political Analysis and Public Policy.He is also the current Chair of the Council of the International Student Association (CISA) and Vice Chair of Dormitory 7. In his interview, Ayomide talks about broadening his horizons in HSE University’s student dorms and making the most of summer in Moscow.

Oleg Baranov is a graduate of Moscow State University, the New Economic School, and the University of Maryland. He also lectured and ran a popular course on market design at the University of Colorado. He recently passed review for a tenured position at HSE University, and served as the Head of the International Recruiting Committee at the Faculty of Economic Sciences in the 2022–2023 academic year. He will also begin teaching the course ‘Microeconomics 2’ on the HSE and NES Joint Programme in Economics in September 2023. In his interview, Oleg talks about auctions, studying for a PhD, and international recruiting.

Mariya Teteryatnikova, Associate Professor at the Department of Theoretical Economics at the Faculty of Economic Sciences (FES), talks about building an academic career in economics, European students and teaching in Vienna, the role of network theory in different contexts, international recruiting and more.

Artem Boyko, from St Petersburg, won a gold medal at the 20^th International Linguistics Olympiad in Bulgaria and has now enrolled at HSE University. He was admitted without entrance examinations to the Bachelor’s programme Fundamental and Computational Linguistics. Artem spoke with the HSE News Service about his participation in the olympiads, his passion for linguistics, and joining the university.

Chemist Polina Yurova works in the same laboratory of the IGIC RAS that she first visited as a tenth grader. In this interview with the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the creation of ion-exchange membranes, the ‘hair’ of black holes and her favourite Moscow park.

Pavel Ivanov is a 2023 graduate of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics'. Recently, he was named a winner of the political science research paper competition named after Max Weber and also participated in creating 'the first robot political scientist'. In his interview, Pavel shares his thoughts on his studies on the programme, his interest in data analytics, and the role of artificial intelligence in political expertise.
