HBO’s 'Game of Thrones' has become one of the most sensational TV series in recent years. How does it manage to keep audiences’ attention and make them look forward to the next episode? Alexander Pavlov, Associate Professor of the HSE’s Department of Practical Philosophy, has been studying the phenomenon of mass culture and its role in cinema. He gave an interview for the High School Press and shed some light on the subject.
The HSE First Spring Ball at Izmailovo Kremlin
On April 12, 2014 the first HSE spring ball, organized by HSE students from the Faculty of Economics, took place at the Izmailovo Kremlin. About 150 elegantly dressed young ladies and gentlemen danced the waltz and Polonaise, Quadrilles and other ballroom classics.

Austria Day in HSE Nizhny Novgorod Campus – for the Whole City
Austria Day took place in the HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod campus, which has close connections with Austrian universities. The event is part of the Austrian Cultural Season, which started in Moscow in the middle of May and is taking place in 17 Russian cities.
HSE is hosting the Science Cinema Festival ‘360°’
The third Science Cinema Festival ‘360°’ takes place in Moscow from 10-17 October. The HSE was one of the first to be involved in this festival and its screenings.
Contemporary Art Biennale in the HSE Courtyard
From September 24 to October 15, the HSE Faculty of Media Communications and School of Cultural Studies will host the Media Yard art project in their courtyard; the project is part of the 5th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.
The City Came Out to HSE Day
Both scholars and musicians will tell you that learning is a lifetime affair. On September 10, 2013, HSE Day took place in Gorky Park for the second time. The event featured Freshman Day, an alumni reunion, and an outdoor lecture centre, as well as many humorous competitions for students and anyone wanting to participate.
