Categorical Data Analysis
From 29 June to 12 July the HSE Laboratory of Comparative Social Research is holding the Fourth International Summer School on Categorical Data Analysis in Zelenogorsk in the suburbs of St Petersburg. This year academics have come both from the Russian regions and from abroad — CIS, Germany, Israel, Romania and the USA.
An Academic Approach to Cultural Tourism
The International Summer School, ‘Impacts of Cultural Events on Small and Medium-size Art-oriented Towns,’ has begun. Participants of the School include alumni of the Experience Economy: Hospitality and Tourism Management Master’s Programme, undergraduates and graduate students of HSE’s Moscow campus, as well as students, young lecturers and researchers from various universities in Poland, Slovenia, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, and Japan.
Russia and China Becoming Closer
On July 3-10, the IV International Russian-Chinese Summer School on International Relations, ‘Space and Time in the Eurasian Era,’ took place in Moscow. The event was organized by the HSE and East China Normal University. A total of 15 Russian and 12 Chinese students are taking part in the summer school. The summer school, whose working language is English, is intended for undergraduate and graduate students from Russia and China that are interested in international relations.
Student Delegation from Singapore Coincides with Master Class by Professor Desai Narasimhalu
From July 5-12, the HSE Innovation and Enterprise Office is hosting a visit by Singapore students. Their programme will include educational, as well as cultural and entertainment activities. Included in the programme is a master class by Professor Desai Narasimhalu, known by many as the sensei of the innovation industry.
RSSIA 2014: It's Best to Talk about Research in Seven Lines or Less
Between June 28 and July 4, the Russian Summer School on Institutional Analysis (RSSIA 2014) took place near Moscow (RSSIA2014). Aside from the theoretical and practical aspects of institutional economics, also discussed were issues related to the development and presentation of academic research.
HSE Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies
On June 27, the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies signed a cooperation agreement. The groundwork for the agreement had been laid over a period of several months, since December 2013, when a delegation from the Institute first visited the HSE St. Petersburg campus.
Joining Continents
Eleven American students, led by Professor Jennifer Bown from Brigham Young University in Utah, spent nearly six weeks at the Higher School of Economics Nizhny Novgorod campus. During their time, they lived with host families and attended classes to practice their Russian and learn about Russian national identity and culture.
Experts discuss issues related to big data processing
The Second International Conference on Information Technology and Quantitative Management (ITQM 2014) took place on June 3-5, drawing 120 professionals from 29 countries to consider issues of model performance and decision-making algorithms when processing large amounts of data.

Experts Discuss Problems with Technology Parks
The third International Summit of Technology Parks and Business Incubators – ‘Technology Parks as New Drivers of Development for the National Economy’ – was held in Moscow. The summit was organized by the HSE together with the science park of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Skolkovo’s technology park.
