VII Summer School "From Proposal to Submission: Design of Cross-Cultural Study"
From 11 to 14 June 2017, VI Summer School "From Proposal to Submission: Design of Cross-Cultural Study" was held outside Moscow, organized by the International Research and Teaching Laboratory for Socio-Cultural Research of the Expert Institute at HSE. The headline teachers at the School were the leading researchers known across the world: Fons van de Vijver (PhD, Professor, Tilburg University), Klaus Boehnke (PhD, Professor, Jacobs University, Bremen), and Ulrich Kühnen (PhD, Professor, Jacobs University, Bremen).
The work of the School began with a lecture by Professor Fons van de Vijver devoted to the introduction to mixed methods. The next lecture of Professor Klaus Boehnke uncovered the possibilities of mixed methods on the example of a concrete study of the multiple identity of German students in the United States.
The second day of the School began with a lecture by Professor Ulrich Kühnen on the use of experimental methods in social psychology.
On the third day of the School, Professor Fons van de Vijver talked about the recommendations of the American Psychological Association (APA) on the style of manuscripts and common mistakes.
On the final day of the School, Professor Klaus Boehnke introduced to a new approach to valuing values at the cultural-level using ESS data containing a measurement of individual values according to Sh. Schwartz's approach.
Also during these four days, the professors discussed research projects in the format of small groups and individual consultations, giving specific advice on design, methods and data analysis.
As a result of the Summer School, each of the participants received valuable feedback on their research from professors, which significantly improved them.
