If You Say So: HSE Launches New Open Access Resource for Studying Russian
Do you have some knowledge of Russian but want to hone your skills and speak like a ‘real Russian’? If so, faculty members and instructors of the HSE School of Linguistics have worked together to create a free online resource just for you. Как скажешь (‘If You Say So’), which will launch April 4, is a virtual textbook and workbook built around video clips that feature HSE faculty and students.
Application for HSE Minors is Open
First-year students can select a minor in their personal accounts beginning at 18.00, March 26. HSE is offering a variety of interesting minors this year, so that students can choose the right minor for themselves.
Different Perspectives and Different People in HSE’s ‘Semester in Moscow’ Programme
Adrian Murillo Ramirez-Moreno is from Mexico City and is currently a third-year student at Universidad Anáhuac México where he studies International Relations. Nicholas Viggiano, from New Jersey, USA, is a third-year student at the University of Maryland, where he is pursuing a double degree in Russian and Environmental Science. Both are studying in HSE’s ‘Semester in Moscow’ Programme. The programme not only allows students to study Russian language at any level, but to design their own curriculum—students have their pick of any English-taught courses they choose, regardless of field. Students are accommodated in the HSE dormitories and receive an official transcript upon completion of the semester.
Russian Schools Are Changing Rapidly, But Not Always for the Better
According to a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) entitled Measuring Innovation in Education 2019: What Has Changed in the Classroom?, Russia ranked among the top three countries where schools are changing most rapidly.
‘Big Data Systems Programme Is the Perfect Amalgam of Business, Analytics, and Informatics’
Sangam Kumar Singh has come from India to do a Master’s in Big Data Systems at the HSE School of Business Informatics in Moscow. He has chosen HSE due to its high standing in global university rankings such as QS and the Times Higher Education ranking as well as its focus on research and innovation. Having started his career in engineering within telecommunication business and later moving onto R&D application and analytics in the same area, he was drawn to HSE’s programme because it combines business, informatics and analytics and equips its graduates with the skills and knowledge required by our modern economy and ever-changing market dynamics.
HSE Team Makes It to CFA Institute Research Challenge European Finals
On March 5, 2019, a team from HSE successfully competed in the finals of the regional stage of the 2018-2019 CFA Institute Research Challenge and is now going to Europe for the next round of the completion which will take place in Zurich on April 10. The winners of the European stage will then go on to the Global Finals in New York.

Between Two Universities
Alina Pertseva, who earned her PhD in Philosophy from the Doctoral School of Philosophy at HSE in 2017, defended her dissertation at two universities at once — HSE and the University of Paris VIII. In an interview with the HSE news service, Pertseva discussed how she managed to do this and how the Russian and French approaches to research differ.
